PlatSil® Gel-OO30 and RTV-4030 are both ultra-soft Shore OO30 platinum-cure silicones, placing them in a material range designed for substantial flexibility and deformation rather than conventional mold rigidity. This profile is relevant to applications such as life casting, prosthetic fabrication, animatronics and other soft-material applications where compliance is more important than structural support.
Both products use a 1:1 mixing system, so component ratio is not a major distinction in this comparison. Polytek specifies 1A:1B by weight or volume for Gel-OO30, while RTV-4030 also uses a 1:1 system. Their published working windows are likewise relatively close, at approximately 45 minutes for Gel-OO30 and 30–40 minutes for RTV-4030.
Viscosity shows a more noticeable published difference. Polytek reports approximately 6,200 cP for mixed Gel-OO30, while MinghuiLink reports approximately 2,500±200 mPa·s for Part A of RTV-4030. Because these values are reported at different measurement points and material states, they should not be treated as a direct viscosity ranking. The published figures nevertheless indicate different material-handling characteristics that may affect mixing, pouring and air management.
The published demold and cure times are broadly similar. Polytek lists approximately 4 hours for demolding Gel-OO30, while MinghuiLink specifies approximately 4–5 hours for RTV-4030. Neither product therefore shows a major published turnaround advantage in this comparison. For most users, the more meaningful selection factors are likely to be elongation, viscosity, surface characteristics and the requirements of the final fabrication process.
The clearest published mechanical difference is elongation. Gel-OO30 reports 848% elongation, compared with 560±50% for RTV-4030. This greater published stretch capability may be relevant when the cured material must undergo substantial deformation around contours, flexible edges or during fitting and removal. Tensile strength is reported at 118 psi for Gel-OO30 and 1.2±0.5 MPa for RTV-4030, while the reported tear values are relatively close in scale. Because the manufacturers use different test methods and data presentation, these figures should be treated as published reference data rather than a direct laboratory ranking.
Surface behavior provides another practical distinction. Polytek positions Gel-OO30 within its soft silicone gel system for prosthetics, masks and animatronics, while MinghuiLink notes that its softest life-casting grades may have slight surface tack after curing. Surface feel, finishing requirements and the intended fabrication process should therefore be considered alongside elongation and viscosity when selecting between the two materials.
