SES22251/CAT22251-30 and RTV-4130 are both Shore A30 mold-making silicones, but they use different cure systems and are positioned around different production priorities. SES22251 is an addition-cure system focused on high-strength, high-modulus mold making, low shrinkage and easy release, while RTV-4130 is a platinum-cure silicone designed around simpler 1:1 processing and faster mold turnaround.
SES22251/CAT22251-30 has a particularly strong mechanical profile for an A30 mold silicone. Shin-Etsu publishes 7.90 MPa tensile strength, 21 N/mm tear strength and 660% elongation, while also positioning the material as high-strength and high-modulus with low shrinkage and easy release. These characteristics are relevant when the mold must retain dimensional stability while still providing enough flexibility for demolding.
Working time is another meaningful difference. SES22251 provides approximately 90 minutes of working time, compared with about 35 minutes for RTV-4130. The longer window can be valuable for larger molds, more complicated geometries and processes requiring additional time for mixing, deaeration and controlled pouring. RTV-4130 instead favors a shorter processing cycle and faster movement toward curing.
The mixing systems are also very different. SES22251/CAT22251-30 uses a 100:10 ratio by weight, while RTV-4130 uses a 1:1 ratio by weight or volume. RTV-4130 is therefore simpler to measure for routine manual batching, particularly with smaller quantities. SES22251 requires more accurate catalyst measurement to maintain the specified formulation.
Viscosity reinforces the difference in handling. Shin-Etsu lists approximately 50 Pa·s for the SES22251 base, while MinghuiLink reports approximately 4,400±200 mPa·s for Part A of RTV-4130. Because these values are reported at different measurement points, they should not be treated as a strict like-for-like viscosity ranking. The published data nevertheless indicate that RTV-4130 is the easier-flowing system for many routine pouring operations, while SES22251 requires more attention to mixing, deaeration and pouring technique.
Cure speed creates the clearest production trade-off. SES22251 has a published cure condition of approximately 24 hours at 23°C, whereas RTV-4130 is listed at approximately 5 hours. SES22251 therefore provides substantially more processing time but requires a longer wait before the mold reaches its published cure state. RTV-4130 is better suited to users who prioritize faster mold turnover.
SES22251/CAT22251-30 is particularly relevant to precision mold making and rapid prototyping because its published combination of high strength, high elongation, low shrinkage and easy release supports accurate and durable reusable molds. RTV-4130 is more attractive when the priority is straightforward 1:1 processing, easier routine handling, higher published tear strength and shorter production cycles.
