In step 7 you pour the second half on top of the already cured first half. This works because you can not stick fresh silicone to an already cured piece?
Fresh liquid silicone will permanently bond to cured silicone. If you pour the second half directly onto the first, you will create one solid block. To prevent this, you must apply a mold release agent to the cured first half before pouring the second. The mold release creates a barrier that stops the two halves from sticking together.

Can I use wax instead of clay
You'll need a soft, pliable wax, like modeling wax or sculpting wax, not hard candle wax. It needs to be soft enough to shape like clay. Always test first: Just to be safe, test a small spot. Put a little bit of your silicone on the wax and make sure it cures properly before you make the whole mold.
